New Site Makeover!

I've given my website a brand new makeover more in theme with my design name....hope everyone likes it as much as I do! :P

I love the Genesis Framework and themes and have been wanting to change to that for a while....when I saw the Mocha theme this morning I knew it was perfect to customise....and so it has been hehe

Edit 24/04 - yay, my site has just been added to the StudioPress Showcase and the comment I received back when I submitted was:

Hey Melissa - great job on the site, looks fantastic!
Just added it to the showcase!

I also received the following feedback from the support forums:

You're right: Mocha did lend itself perfectly to what you are doing.
Even though I can see the Mocha influence, your site looks and feels unique.

Needless to say I am proud as punch as I have put a ton of time into getting the site how I wanted it to look :P

Tutorial – Beauty

I have 2 tutorials that I wrote a while back and took off my blog for some reason I cannot remember LOL so now I am putting them both back....here is the second :)

Requirements:
Paint Shop Pro (any version)
No outside filters required
Tube of Choice (I used a PTU tube by Keith Garvey who can now be found at PSP Tubes Emporium)
Font of Choice (I used TheNautiGal ROB which was free when I wrote this tut but now appears to be PTU)
If you like the kit and want to purchase the complete kit, CLICK HERE
Scrapkit - Daddy's Pride And Joy by me, since the tagger version is no longer available I have added the supplies needed in a zip as at April 7th, 2012 - download the included supplies:

Ok...let's start!

Open a new image 650X650px white background

Open HunnyB_DaddysPrideAndJoy_SquareFrame1.png, Image>>Rotate Right

Copy and Paste as a New Layer on your blank image

Image>>Free Rotate>> Right 3 degrees, position the frame towards the bottom left of the canvas

Open your tube, copy and paste as a new layer, position on top of the frame so that the legs just hang over the bottom section a bit

On the frame layer...Selections>>Select All, Selections>>Float, Selections>>Modify>>Contract - 1

Make the tube layer active and click on your eraser tool

Erase the section of legs in front of the frame at the bottom...don't worry if you can't get it exact...we are going to cover over this area with some flowers shortly

Duplicate the tube layer, click back on the first one to make it the active layer...we are going to apply a couple of effects here

Adjust>>Blur>>Gausian Blur>>Radius - 10

Effects>>Texture Effects>>Blinds...width 2, opacity 50, color #f283a3, horizontal and light both ticked

Back to top tube layer, apply a drop shadow, I used off set Vertical 2, Horizontal 2, Opacity 35, and Blur 3

Open HunnyB_DaddysPrideAndJoy_Paper7.jpg and resize to about 500px, paste behind frame layer, select and delete the background from around the outside of the frame

Effects>>Texture Effects>>Mosaic - Antique with the following settings: Symmetric Columns 75, Tile Diffusion 0, Grout Width 2, Grout Diffusion 25

Open HunnyB_DaddysPrideAndJoy_CurlyRibbonPink.png, resize to 550px height, copy and paste behind all layers, just after the background, duplicate, mirror and flip, move around till you're happy with where they are

Apply drop shadows with the above settings except put them on new layers....use the Raster Deform Tool (hit d on your keyboard to activate it quickly) on the shadow layers to make the ribbons look like they are coming off the page in different areas, apply a little blur (I set it at 2) to the shadows and lower the opacity (I lowered to 80)

Open HunnyB_DaddysPrideAndJoy_BeadAndSequins1.png and paste behind the ribbons to the top left of the frame, apply only a very slight shadow to these, same settings as above but reduce horizontal and vertical to 1, shadow on the same layer

Make top layer active, open flowers 3 through 8, resize as you wish and scatter along the bottom of the frame, apply drop shadows, offset Vert 2 Hor 2 Opacity 35 and Blur 3

Apply the same drop shadow to the frame

Use the alpha to make phrase of choice down right side of frame...rotate the letters 3 degrees to the right to make them look like they are coming off the frame...I chose to put the word Beauty there and I resized the alpha letters to 75 height to make them fit nicely, apply shadow to the letters

Hide the white background layer (click the eye icon in the layers pallette), merge visible and center the layer with PSP's Center Layer Script, unhide the background layer

**if you can't find your scripts toolbar you may need to set it to show: View>>Toolbars>>Script

Use font of choice to add your name, I used TheNautiGal, position on top of the flowers, rotate 3 degrees right, give it a bevel with the following settings:

Selections>>Select All, Selections>>Float, Selections>>Modify>>Expand - 2, add a new layer behind text and flood fill with white...apply shadow to this layer

Add your watermark and licensing info

Resize the tag as needed for where you want to use it...and you're done! I hope you enjoyed my tut :)

Open HunnyB_WheresTheLoot_Sticker14.png, resize to 500 high, copy and paste behind the frames...move it over so it is behind the frames.

Apply drop shadow to the sticker

With your magic wand, select inside the three frames and expand by 5, Selections>>Modify>>Expand then Selections>>Invert, make the ship sticker layer active and hit Delete

Right-click and save the below image (it's a png file, make sure it saves correctly lol)

Open HunnyB_PirateLass_Conduct.png, copy and paste on top of the middle frame's sail

Open HunnyB_WheresTheLoot_Flower2.png and resize to 75 wide, copy and paste as a new layer in front of the frames...move to where the lower corners of the frames almost meet

Apply drop shadow, duplicate layer and move the duplicate to where the upper frames almost meet

Open HunnyB_WheresTheLoot_FoldedRibbon2.png and resize to 300 wide, Image>>Mirror, Image>>Free Rotate>>Right - 20, Adjust>>Sharpness>>Sharpen

Copy and paste as a new layer behind the flowers, arrange behind the top flower...duplicate layer, mirror and arrange the copy behind the lower flower, apply drop shadow to both ribbons

Apply drop shadow to frames layer

Hide background layer, merge visible and center the layer with psp script Center Layer

Unhide background layer

Add your name and some effects, copyright info and watermark

Seven Months Quit… Yay!

So....first of all, I am 7 months smoke free....wooohoo me lol

I am a member of a quit smoking forum and I went there to read this morning after some time away, and the forum for 6 months onwards had a few posts where ppl were craving really badly and one even went back to smoking....after 8 and a half months! Maybe it's just me but I find this really confusing....or maybe I have just been exceedingly lucky that I went through the hard days early on and haven't really looked back. I got hit with a trigger around Christmas time (doing the Christmas socialising bit for the first time since I quit lol) but really, when I do think about cigarettes... and that is more often than I thought it would be LOL ...it's not thinking about them as in craving them, they are just thoughts... kinda like "gee in this situation I used to..." and stuff like that lol

Sometimes it makes me feel guilty to see that what appears to be the vast majority on that forum are still really struggling... and then I think how scary that must appear to smokers contemplating giving up! If I had read posts like that or thought I might still be craving so badly as to go out and start smoking again, I'm not sure if I could have done it to be honest.

I've always know I was very...and I mean VERY LOL... strong-willed, it used to frustrate me no end that cigarettes controlled me and not the other way around, maybe once I did successfully quit, my strong will helped keep me in the mindset of being a NON smoker and NOT missing it at all.

The other day as I came out of the shopping center with my husband it was teaming with rain, so we sprinted for the car. Before I quit I would have been huffing and puffing even with such a short distance, but now I feel exhilarated... I can't wait for my ankle to heal up properly as I want to take up running to help get me fit and lose weight. I gained 10 kilos when I quit...ate everything in sight LMAO

So back on topic...ex-smokers how long did it take for you before the really bad craves went away? Did you have a really hard time of it? Or a relatively easy time of it?

Not that quitting is the easiest thing in the world to do, but beating the psychological addiction it seems is far harder for some than beating the actual physical addiction. We are heading towards winter here and I recognise there will probably be a few triggers I have yet to pass through....but I am confident like I never have been before, and actually quite looking forward to making it past.

We are taking the kids on a trip to meet some of my relatives and it will be the first time I have holidayed since I quit smoking... really looking forward to it lol being able to relax on the car trip, in the motel, without feeling the constant need to stop or go outside for a smoke :)

To everyone out there who have quit or are contemplating quitting....stay strong! You CAN do it!

In design news, I am in the middle of a new Easter Kit for you all, here is a sneak peek :P
